Screening Salt-Tolerant Forage Crops underSaline Soil andIts Growth Characteristics inCoastal Beach of Jiangsu Province of China

    Salt stress is a major limiting factor to crops production. Under salt stress, plant growth is mainly inhibited by osmotic stress, ionic toxicity, oxidative stress and nutrient imbalance. Globally, saline soils occupy nearly 8% of the earth’s surface, and 23% of arable land have salinized with different extent. In China, 99 million ha land was the saline soil, and 8 million of cultivated land was salinized. In addition, China has 2.2 million ha shoaly land, and about 0.66 million ha in Jiangsu Province. In Jiangsu Province, forage is very shortage for animal husbandry. About 50% of the forage is imported from neighbor or others provinces.
